After viewing the clip above, answer the following questions using complete sentences. What parts of the clip are the interview, and which parts of the clip are b-roll or archival footage? What happens to the viewer when these two elements are combined?

Much of the B-Roll for this film had to be archival or older materials, because there is only one member left alive. How do you think this changed the making of this documentary from the one we saw the other day?

  1. The interviews are whenever there is a person talking, like sitting there just talking or answering questions. B-roll is when they show photos of the band or clips when their performing

  2. The interview is the A-Roll and the archival footage is the B-Roll. This changed the making because they had to rely on older, lower quality footage

  3. the interview is the people talking in the studio, answering questions. the b roll is the cut scenes of old footage and pictures

  4. when they made this documentary they did not shoot much of the film but they had to probably find the footage they wanted to put into and trying to make it look good considering how technology has changed, also trying to find people who know something about this band was probably difficult.

  5. What parts of the clip were the interview, and which parts of the clip are b-roll or archival footage?
The parts where there are old interviews or the other bands talking about Big Star is the interview, the parts where it shows pictures of Big Star or pictures of big star preforming is the b-roll.
What happens to the viewer when these two elements are combined?
It makes the viewer feel involved, it also informs the viewer about information they would have been lost without.

  6. The parts where there are old interviews or the other bands talking about the band is the interview, the parts where it shows pictures of the band or pictures of the band performing is the b roll.

  7. it makes it harder to get the full story beings there was only one member left so we only get one solid opinion and input on the story, where as if the other members where alive it could be a vastly different story based on the other members experiences throughout the bands “life span”. instead the people doing the documentary relied on b-roll/past footage to try to re-create the bands story.

  8. because only one member of the band Big Star is left it would make it much more difficult
to film because you know obviously he is the only one left.

  9. After viewing the clip above, answer the following questions using complete sentences. What parts of the clip are the interview, and which parts of the clip are b-roll or archival footage? The interview part was the guy talking in the background. The B Roll was showing the people in the band and the album.
What happens to the viewer when these two elements are combined? It makes a documentary
How do you think this changed the making of this documentary from the one we saw the other day? The footage was older and it wasn’t made for this documentary

  10. The interview part of the video was the person talking about the band and the additional people who also gave their opinions. The one member was the main interview person, the other people barely talked. The B-roll was the older footage and pictures of the band showing what they looked like. To give the audience a better picture of what the documentary is about. What happens when these two elements are combined is it grabs the viewer’s attention and keeps them interested in what the video is about. So it keeps an interview more interesting and appealing.

  11. A-Roll footage is when they interview people around the same time or people that knew the original crew together and the B-roll footage was the archival footage, pictures, and videos of the original crew working together and making music or giving autographs

  12. The parts of the clip that were the interview were when there were people on the screen like artists from other bands and the last remaining member of a certain band (I didn’t catch the band member’s name) were answering questions about and making comments on the band known as Big Star. The B-Roll in this clip were the old shots of Big Star playing concerts, signing memorabilia, and various still images of the band members.

  13. The interview is of the artist talking and answering questions from the interviewer, The B-Roll is cuts of pictures and videos of the artist’s playing in concerts and answer the question that are given to them about how they came together and how they became the “Big Star” band.

  14. The interview part of the video was the person talking about the band and the additional people who also gave their opinions. What happens when these two elements are combined is it grabs the viewer’s attention and keeps them interested in what the video is about. So it keeps an interview more interesting and appealing. The difference between this documentary and the one we saw before is the emotion and quality look of the video. Because in the earlier documentary there were multiple people talking about their feelings while in this band document their were more pictures and videos from the past.

  15. The part that was the interview was everything being said, other then the music obviously. The b-roll was videos and pictures of the band either performing or just hanging out together, or rehearsing. The view gets more interested, at least i was. when the combined ever thing together the way they did. With the pictures, videos, and the words about there music and how good they were and what they did. It was hard getting the full story considering the fact that there was only one band member left but he did pretty good. It was different from the other video we saw the other day because the other video was about how poetry changed kids lives. And showed them telling their stories about how they grew up and what it would be different when they left their homes. and leave their past behind.

  16. the b roll is the pictures and the clips .The interview part of the video was the person talking about the band is the a roll.

  17. The interview is when they were asking questions for the band member to ask.The b roll is when the were filming the band performing and showing the behind the scenes. When combined the viewer has more to relate to making the films easier to watch.2.This would make it longer because the have to scrape up old footage and the cant film any more even if they wanted to

  18. The parts of the clip of the interview is when the artist is talking and answering the homework. B-roll footage would be like when they were playing the guitar or showing pictures of other people. The viewer gets a better experience understanding the documentary by combing these two aspects. This changed the making of the video because they were not able to get new footage for the specific documentary which would have helped very much.

  19. The parts of the film when they have the subject in frame while he is talking about something. The B-Roll is when there is all the scenes of past things or different subject other than the main subject talking. When these two elements are combined the viewer is more intrigued and more attentive to the film.
I think having only one of the band members still alive made the film harder to film, especially since a lot of the footage was archival or from the past. The directors and producers would have had to do a lot of research and digging for information. The difference between the two documentaries is that one is about something more present and one of the documentaries is about something in the past.

  20. The A-roll consists of interview footage from people. The B-roll is shots and images of anything else, mainly images of the band together, among other things. When they are put together, the interviewee is talking about something, and then you see what he is talking about as he talks about it. As a result of a lot of the interviews being archival, they filmmakers had to cater to not being in control of what is being said, and probably had to pay extra attention to the B-roll to compensate.
